DigitalOcean
Overview
Scout APM is available as a SaaS Add-On in the DigitalOcean Marketplace. With the Add-On, your Scout APM subscription is billed, provisioned, and managed directly from your DigitalOcean account — no separate Scout signup or credit card is required.
Installing the Add-On
- From the DigitalOcean Marketplace, find the Scout APM Add-On and click Add Scout APM.
- Choose a plan and confirm the purchase. DigitalOcean will provision a Scout organization and generate an agent key for you.
- Retrieve the agent key (
SCOUT_KEY) from the resource’s configuration variables in the DigitalOcean control panel. - Install the Scout language agent for your stack and set
SCOUT_KEYto the value from step 3. Follow the setup instructions for your language:
For general guidance on installing Add-Ons, see the DigitalOcean Add-Ons documentation.
Accessing your Scout dashboard
Open the Scout APM resource in your DigitalOcean control panel and click Single Sign-On. You will be logged into Scout automatically — no separate password is required. Team members on your DigitalOcean team can use SSO the same way; each teammate’s first sign-on creates a Scout user attached to your organization.
See the DigitalOcean Single Sign-On documentation for more.
Managing your plan
Plan upgrades, downgrades, and cancellations are all handled through DigitalOcean, not through the Scout UI:
- Open the Scout APM resource from the DigitalOcean control panel Add-Ons page.
- Choose Change Plan to pick a different tier, or Destroy to cancel the subscription.
Plan changes take effect in Scout as soon as DigitalOcean notifies us — usually within a few seconds. Your billing will update on your next DigitalOcean invoice.
The Scout billing page will show a summary of your current plan and capability limits, but plan management buttons are intentionally disabled for Add-On customers — all changes must go through DigitalOcean.
Database monitoring and logs
Plans include Scout’s Database Monitoring and managed log ingestion. Since log Ingest Keys are created per-app, separate from the APM/errors SCOUT_KEY, you will need to visit the “Logs” tab for your individual apps to obtain that key and set it in your agent configuration.
Resource suspension and reactivation
If a DigitalOcean invoice goes unpaid, DigitalOcean will notify Scout and your organization will be temporarily disabled. Paying the outstanding invoice reactivates the resource automatically; your data is retained during the suspension window. See DigitalOcean’s billing documentation for details on invoicing and payment.
Switching from a direct Scout account to the DigitalOcean Add-On
If you already have a direct Scout account and want to move billing under DigitalOcean:
- Install the Scout APM Add-On from the DigitalOcean Marketplace. This creates a new Scout organization.
- Point your agents at the new
SCOUT_KEYfrom the DigitalOcean resource. - Email support@scoutapm.com if you need help or to cancel your existing subscription.
