AWS Marketplace

Overview

Scout APM is available as a SaaS subscription in AWS Marketplace. Your Scout subscription is billed through your AWS account, and plan changes are made in AWS Marketplace rather than in the Scout UI.

Subscribing

  1. Open the Scout APM listing in AWS Marketplace and subscribe.
  2. After subscribing, set up your account from AWS Marketplace. AWS redirects you to Scout to finish signing up.
  3. Complete the signup form with your organization name, your name, email address, and password. This creates a new Scout organization tied to your AWS subscription. Use an email address that isn’t already registered with Scout.

Complete signup within 4 hours of being redirected from AWS. After that, return to AWS Marketplace and start the setup again.

Activation timing

AWS can take a few minutes to propagate a new agreement. Right after signup, your plan limits may briefly show trial values before updating to your subscription. If they haven’t updated after about 10 minutes, email support@scoutapm.com.

Installing the agent

  1. Find your Scout Key at https://scoutapm.com/settings.
  2. Install the Scout language agent for your stack and set SCOUT_KEY to that value. Follow the setup instructions for your language:

Managing your plan

The Scout billing page shows your current AWS Marketplace subscription and plan limits, but all changes are made in AWS Marketplace.

To add capacity (for example, more transactions), amend your existing agreement in place. Don’t cancel and re-subscribe.

  1. In the AWS console, go to AWS Marketplace > Manage Subscriptions.
  2. Under your active subscriptions, click Scout APM, then click Set up product near the top. (Older versions of the AWS console label this Read more on AWS Marketplace.)
  3. Click View purchase options. This shows your current agreement.
  4. Click Edit agreement and change the quantity.

The agreement page also has an Edit auto-renewal option. That only turns auto-renewal on or off; use Edit agreement to change quantity.

Exceeding your daily transaction limit

If your apps exceed your plan’s daily transaction limit, access to detailed traces (and on some plans, charts) is limited for the rest of the day, and Scout shows a banner with a link to your AWS Marketplace subscriptions. To avoid losing access to data, upgrade by editing your agreement as described above.
